About

Hi, I’m Rupen — welcome to browngeek.net

I write about navigating career transitions, building a meaningful life, and making sense of the chaos — from being a law firm partner to figuring out what comes next.

This blog is my public notebook: honest reflections, lessons learned, and experiments as I redesign my work and life.

Why I Started browngeek.net

For 20 years, I worked in top offshore law firms across Hong Kong and Jersey, eventually becoming a partner. The job was intense, the hours were long — and earlier this year, I was made redundant.

That moment forced me to stop and ask some hard questions about career, family, and purpose. browngeek.net is where I share what I’m learning as I rebuild: finding a sustainable career path, balancing family life with two energetic kids, and experimenting with productivity, writing, and creativity along the way.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, burned out, or just ready for something different — you’ll find honesty here.

browngeek.net has actually been around since 2009, I had been writing sporadically from 2009 till 2016 on blogger. However on 30 August 2025 I decided to launch a fresh new site. You can find my old posts here: https://browngeek.blogspot.com.

What You’ll Find Here

On browngeek.net, you can expect:

  • Career reflections – the good, bad, and ugly of navigating change.
  • Productivity & focus – practical ideas to work with more intention (and less distraction).
  • Family & travel notes – our adventures and what we’ve learned along the way.

I post once or twice a week. No fluff, no spam — just thoughtful updates that might spark something for you.

This website is a work in progress, I am still learning how to use my new hosting platform (Ghost). This means that some things may break as I try to improve the site, if there are any issues, do get in touch with me.
