DNS redirection - further update

So, a further update on my quest to find another DNS redirection service to replace Unblock-us (note, referral link) [I should point out I would quite happily consider staying with Unblock-us if they offered a more competitive package, i.e. such as returning to offer a yearly subscription and/or VPN].Even more DNS redirection servicesI’ve stumbled upon yet more DNS redirection services:BlocklessThis seems to be very much like Unblock-us, charging US$4.95 a month.  I cannot seem to find any options for yearly subscriptions.  A list of supported sites is found here: https://www.blockless.com/channels.VPNUKThis is not a strict DNS redirection service, but it offers DNS redirection as part of its overall VPN package.  Their prices range from GBP5.99 - GBP9.99 a month.  A list of supported sites can be found here: https://vpnuk.info/services-smart-dns.html.Proxy DNSThis service is in beta and at present doesn’t charge anything.  It seems to suggest it will support the likes of Pandora, Hulu and Netflix.Naturally I will look into all three services as well.Using DNS redirection on your AndroidWhen I originally wrote about this whole DNS redirection service back in June 2011, I also mentioned a way of getting the services to work on your Android phone using “Scripting Layer for Android”.  This generally worked, but had a few problems, namely that if you restarted your phone or moved from wifi back to phone data, the session would be lost.Since then it seems there have been a few DNS specific apps for android.  I have found two which pretty much meet the requirements to use a DNS redirection service: DNS Changer and Set DNS.  DNS Changer is totally free, while Set DNS offers both a free (with limited options) and a paid version called Set DNS Pro.I have tried both DNS Changer and Set DNS (free version) both with Unblock-us.  With both services you are required to enter relevant IP address (in this case for Unblock-us) and then the app is supposed to update the DNS settings for your phone.I could not get DNS Changer to work, but Set DNS worked quite well.  The result was that I was able to play Pandora and Hulu+ from my phone via my mobile network.A few things to note.  Firstly none of the DNS redirection services officially support this method.  In fact in a lot of their FAQ’s they specifically claim DNS redirection on a mobile network will not work, for example with Unblock-us and secondly, before you can actually start benefitting from the services, you do need to go on the relevant DNS redirection service website from your mobile browser to validate your internet address. However, overall I was quite impressed with the ability to use DNS redirection on my mobile phone using the mobile network.  I reckon if one of DNS redirection services were to come out with a dedicated app they would attract quite a few customers.
