Hong Kong mobile networks MTR / Tunnel / Administrative fee increases
As many of you know all Hong Kong mobile networks charge an arbitrary monthly MTR / Tunnel / MTR fee which for some reason isn't quoted on their headline rates, but is mentioned in the small print.
Why this just isn't shown as part of the phone tariff is anyone's guess, but this is Hong Kong where consumer protection laws really don't mean anything.
Historically all providers charged HK$12 a month. However this has now changed as follows:
HKT / PCCW / CSL / Sun (ex New World Mobility) - HK$18
Smartone - HK$18
Three - HK$12
China Mobile - HK$12
So basically two players (one of them being the major dominant player) have now increased the fee from HK$12 to HK$18 a month.
I don't know if this applies to existing customers or just new customers only, but do keep an eye out on your phone bills or notices.
