It's been a while
I have not written publicly for years. I did write publicly sporadically previously, but now I want to see if I can keep it up. Someone recently had said that we consume more than we produce and we should be looking to produce more than we consume and the best way to start is to just get on and produce. The product should be quick, dumb and bad. So this is probably going to be quick, dumb and bad, but I want to try and stay consistent in my approach. I will risk sharing my thoughts publicly, but let's see who actually reads and responds. So what's changed. Well, I have more time on my hands. I now don't have a job and trying to find a new job is proving challenging. I probably didn't do myself any favours in losing my job and also not setting myself up properly for finding a new job. While I don't want to beat myself up over this, I do want to spend time reflecting on what went wrong, the mistakes and what I can learn for the future. So where did it go wrong? According to my previous employer, it was the market. I have no doubts the market did play a part. It is true that in my line of work the market had significantly slowed down. In addition the team I was in did let go of people before me. I did not see the signs and when I was told I was being made redundant it was a shock. The reality was that if I look back, and hindsight is always 20/20, there were lots of warning signs that I could have picked up on, including the fact that the market was very soft. My biggest takeaway is that no job is secure, and that I should positioned myself both internally within the company and externally to the outside world.I am hopefully going to write more, but am going to keep this short now and stick it out in the world.
